Where it suits
When Paramount is the right answer
There are four situations where we will argue for PVC over composite, and they come up constantly on the South Shore.
Anything touching a pool
Slip resistance, chlorine tolerance and a rating for temporary submersion. In Brossard and Candiac, where pools are everywhere, this is the default recommendation.
Full sun and bare feet
PVC runs cooler underfoot than composite of a comparable colour. On a south-facing yard with no shade it is the difference between using the deck in July and looking at it.
Near water, or on damp ground
No wood in the core means no food for rot. Along the Richelieu in Chambly, and on any low deck over saturated clay, that is the whole argument.
Structurally awkward sites
PVC boards are lighter than composite, which matters on a rooftop terrace, a balcony, or anywhere the structure below has a limit.

What South Shore owners ask before choosing PVC.
Not better — different. PVC wins on heat, on weight and anywhere water is involved, because there is no wood in it. Composite generally wins on colour range and on how convincingly it imitates timber. The yard decides, not the material.
Cooler than a composite of similar colour, yes. Nothing dark stays genuinely cool in direct July sun, so colour still matters — but between two boards of the same shade, the PVC is the one you can stand on.
Yes. It is rated for installations that may be temporarily submerged, which is exactly the dock-and-pool-stair case, and the surface is textured for wet feet.
Four: Brownstone and Sandstone in the multi-tonal Hearth collection, Clay and Mineral as solids in the Mantel collection.
Closer than composite does, honestly — especially the solid colours. If a convincing wood look is the priority, Sanctuary is the better call. If performance around water and heat is the priority, Paramount is.
